Is Restart a recruitment agency and how long does it take to get me a job?

No, Restart is not a recruitment agency. It is not the responsibility of your work coach to get you a job. Your work coach will help you to improve your job searching, your CV, application, and interview techniques (as appropriate). They may also contact you about vacancies they have identified that might be relevant to you, but it remains your responsibility to look for and to apply for suitable vacancies.

How can my Restart Employment Coach help me?

Restart is a very flexible programme and we aim to look at all of the barriers that you face when looking for work. Your Employment Coach will support you to build on your confidence, wellbeing, motivation, and skills.  Your journey back into work will be planned specifically for you with your Employment Coach in the form of an Action Plan containing activities and tasks, to meet your individual needs.

What will this help look like?

Your Employment Coach can help and support you in many different ways, identifying your current skills, transferrable skills and identifying new skills that you may like to gain. 

Your Employment Coach can offer practical advice and support every step of the way, from creating CVs to enrolling you onto training courses and preparing you for interviews.

Can you pay for college courses/
qualifications/CSCS cards/SIA badges etc?

Whilst we do have some limited funding available to support you back into work it does not generally cover the cost of full-time study qualifications. However, we can refer you to partners that often provide work related licenses and qualifications for free.

Can I attend during school hours?

We always try to be as flexible as possible and will look at each person’s circumstances on an individual basis and book appointments at times that are easier to attend.

Do I have to come in face to face?

The Restart Programme is a face-to-face programme. If you have any concerns about this please let us know on your first phone call with your assigned Employment Coach.

Can I claim my travel back?

If you have travelled to a booked face-to-face appointment or course, you can claim approved forms of travel back. Please speak to your Employment Coach for further information.

Can you help me claim sickness benefits?

We do not advise on which benefits you are entitled to, but if you are concerned, we would refer you to the appropriate partner organisation for advice.

I am already with the job centre so what is the difference between having to attend JCP and Restart?

The Restart Scheme is enhanced support provided by a Work Coach who you will work with to find and to help you to sustain employment.

Restart Coaches will work with you to initially identify your strengths and barriers to employment.

You will work with your coach setting realistic outcomes towards your journey to work and you will identify areas of need.

 

The main areas that you will visit with your Employment Coach and enhanced support in these areas may include:  My work, My life, My Skills and My Health.

  • Support with acquiring right to work documentation

  • Focused Active Job Searching including the hidden job market

  • Job opportunity presentations/workshops

  • Mock Interviews

  • CV and Cover Letter Writing

  • Access to Jobs 22 App to Review CV and practice interviews

  • Cover letter construction

  • Speculative Letter construction

  • In Work Support

Examples of enhanced support offered:

  • Signposting to relevant government gateway services for 30 hours free childcare.

  • Better off calculations and your financial entitlement

  • Signposting to relevant debt management agencies

  • Signposting to relevant well-being services including; gambling addiction support, housing, domestic abuse and community support.

  • Translation service support
